Introducing Studio Picnic

About

Studio picnic is a space which aims to document the rich electronic music scene that is happening across Merseyside, right now. Since the tragic closure of Melodic Distraction Radio in September 2023, there has been a real shortage of artists releasing mixes in the city, with people often traveling to Manchester or further afield to do so.

We hope to directly address this by providing a low-cost space for promoters, collectives and artists to both practise, record, and upload a mix - with our support.

We have the following equipment set up:

  • 2 x MK Pioneer 1000 players

  • 1 x Pionner 850 DJM 4 Channel Mixer

  • 2 x Audio-Technia Direct Drive Manual Turntables (AT-LP140XP)

  • 1 x Audio Interface

  • GoPro Hero Series 3+

  • 2 x KRK Classic 5 Studio Monitors

  •

At this moment in time, shows will not be broadcast live and we will not operate as a radio station. We do not have the wifi to facilitate streaming or capacity within the team to operate this model. However, this is something we are looking into but largely depends on funding outcomes. Residents shows will be uploaded to our SoundCloud, alongside audio and video footage on our instagram account.

We ask residents to pay between £5-15 per show, depending on their current socioeconomic circumstances. The same rate applies if you wish to use the studio to practise mixing. If you wish to record a mix, leaving with an audio file and a video file, this rate increases to £10-25 per hour. You can use the sliding scale graphic below to determine your donation suggestion:

We have reserved 8 hours a month where people from lower socio-economic backgrounds can use the space for free. Slot times will get announced at a certain time every week, via our instagram, and can be claimed by emailing studio@queenswaycollective.com by telling us your favourite picnic item and your preferred time slot.

*please note, there will always be a producer in the studio with you during your time in the picnic.
