Welcome to studio picnic

Merseyside's newest DJ studio space

is ready for you!

What is studio picnic?

Based in the heart of the Fabric District in Commune, studio picnic is a space which aims to document the rich electronic music scene that is happening across Merseyside right now.

Since the tragic closure of Melodic Distraction Radio in September 2023, there has been a real shortage of artists and DJs in the city releasing mixes, with people often traveling to Manchester or further afield to do so. We hope to directly address this by providing an affordable space for DJs, collectives, promoters and artists to both practise, record, and upload their work, with our support.

What’s in our picnic?

We have the following equipment set up:

  • 2 x MK Pioneer 1000 players

  • 1 x Pioneer 850 DJM 4 channel mixer

  • 2 x Audio-Technia direct drive manual turntables (AT-LP140XP)

  • 1 x Audio interface

  • GoPro Hero 3+

  • 2 x KRK classic 5 studio monitors

How it works

  • Resident shows

    • We’re starting off with a monthly show from 8 collectives. Shows will be uploaded to our SoundCloud, alongside audio and video footage on our Instagram account. Shows will not be broadcast live and we will not operate as a radio station at the moment. This is something we are exploring, but it largely depends on funding outcomes.

  • Cost: Residents

    • We ask residents for a fee of £5-20 per show, depending on their current income level.

Hire out the studio

The studio is also available to hire out for non-residents if you would like to have a mix.

Please noteCurrently, the studio is only available to hire for a mix. We are looking to explore the future possibility of recording mixes and visual footage, however this feature won't be available until June. You are welcome to bring your own equipment to record your mix for now.

Fee

The rate for hiring the studio is £5-25 per hour. You can use the sliding scale graphic below to determine your donation suggestion. Please note this is a guide only. We're relying on honesty to make this work. Please select a fee based on a true reflection of your financial situation. All booking fees will go towards paying rent. The team aren't being paid for this project..

Free studio use

We have reserved 8 hours a month where people with low or no income can use the space without charge. Slot times will be announced at a certain time every week, via our Instagram, and can be booked by emailing studio@queenswaycollective.com by telling us your favourite picnic item and your preferred time slot.

How to book

Head to the booking page of our website to book your studio session now! Please note, providing payment details is not confirmation of your booking. The team will manually review all booking request and follow up with a separate confirmation email.

Access

We regret to inform that unfortunately, as the studio is based in an upstairs shipping container, it is not a step-free or accessible venue. If you have any access concerns please give us an email on studio@queenswaycollective.com.

*please note, there will always be a team member in the studio with you during your time at picnic.
